Event update: Taste of the Hills – Rapid City, SD
May 18, 2020
We are incredibly grateful for your generous support of Taste of the Hills typically held in Rapid City in September. Because of your support, I wanted to make you aware that the event has been cancelled for this year.
This decision was not made lightly, but in thinking about the community this event brings together, we felt it was in the best interest to put our supporters’ health and safety first. This community includes many breast cancer survivors, current patients and those living with stage IV metastatic disease, some of whom have compromised immune systems that increase their risk for COVID-19. Until we have more direct assurances from our local health experts about guidance for gathering in large groups this Fall, we did not feel it was appropriate to move forward in planning an event that typically gathers 200 people or more.
Unfortunately, we know that the need for our services will only increase in the wake of economic instability caused by COVID-19. With more people losing jobs and insurance coverage, those facing breast cancer will be put in an unimaginable position of deciding between daily expenses and medical bills. Due to event cancellations related to the pandemic, Komen Great Plains has lost approximately $200,000 in revenue to date. Donate now to ensure we can continue to support South Dakotans facing breast cancer.
I want to thank you in advance for your support during these trying times, and ask you to join us in recognizing our sponsors and supporters for this event. By sticking together, we will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever.
