The 2017-2018 Nebraska Grant Recipients are:

  • A Time to Heal: Un Tiempo Para Sanar Videos – $13,755                                   
    A Time to Heal has offered a 12-week holistic survivorship program since 2012. This grant will provide funding to develop and produce informational videos for Spanish speaking populations. The videos will be targeted toward Latina survivors to promote healthy behavior.  Facilitators from across the state will receive culturally sensitive training and copies of the videos to utilize the videos in their communities.

  • Chadron Community Hospital: Circle of Light – $18,000   
    The Circle of Light program provides short-term financial help and aims to decrease monetary barriers that hinder patients from getting and complying with effective treatment in western Nebraska where a patient may need to travel more than 150 miles to a medical facility. The program provides eight to twelve breast cancer patients with short-term financial help related to medical, living or travel expenses during treatment.

  • Charles Drew Health Center: Breast Cancer Screening Initiative – $84,975
    Charles Drew provides breast health outreach and education to at-risk populations, including African American women who have a higher late-stage diagnostic rate for breast cancer. This program will provide 225 breast cancer screenings, 50 to homeless women, and adopts culturally competent, evidence-based approaches to remove barriers to screening and treatment.

  • OneWorld Community Health Centers: Screening and Treatment – $100,000  
    The program provides clinical breast exams and breast cancer treatment for low-income women with a special focus on Hispanic women. OneWorld will provide 1,900 clinical breast exams and 200 mammograms. These grant funds will provide health care services to women who may otherwise go without due to their inability to pay or navigate the healthcare system.

  • Three Rivers Public Health Department: Cancer Awareness, Resources, Exams and Screening Program (CARES) – $55,250   
    The goals of the CARES program are to educate over 500 women on the importance of breast self-awareness, to provide 200 clinical breast exams, and to provide at least 100 mammograms to rural women over the age of 40 living in Saunders County who have not had a mammogram in the past year.

  • Visiting Nurse Association: Breast Cancer Assistance Program – $85,000  
    The Breast Cancer Assistance Program seeks to ease the financial hardships involved in a breast cancer diagnosis by alleviating immediate financial needs, providing emotional support, and connecting patients with community resources. All services to the client are tailored to their particular need. This grant will allow 150 patients from across Nebraska to receive psycho-social help and financial assistance to over 35 breast cancer patients. The Assistance Program aims to ease immediate financial concerns and enable women to focus their energy on recovery.

  • West Central District Health Department: Screening and Treatment – $55,600
    The program aims to educate 500 women on the importance of early detection of breast cancer, provide 300 clinical breast exams and provide 35 free or reduced cost mammograms to women ages 40 and over or those under 40 years with risk factors who meet income guidelines.
