More than $40,000 raised at June 8 Power of Promise luncheon
Nancy G. Brinker, founder of Susan G. Komen®, was a featured guest at the Power of Promise luncheon held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Happy Hollow Club in Omaha. Brinker and breast cancer researcher, Dr. Karen Gelmon, spoke about a future where breast cancer is easier to detect and one in which the disease is managed as a chronic condition.
Brinker is regarded as the leader of the global breast cancer movement. Her journey began with a simple promise to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything possible to end this disease.
Dr. Gelmon is a Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and a Medical Oncologist at the British Columbia Cancer Agency, combining clinical and translational research. She is also a member of Komen’s Scientific Advisory Board that plays a key role in guiding and prioritizing Komen’s global research investment.
The event was sponsored by Pinnacle Bank and hosted by chairpersons, Linda Lovgren of Lovgren Marketing and Diane Duren of Union Pacific.
Seventy-five percent of net proceeds from the event allow Komen Nebraska to provide breast health education, breast cancer screening, as well as treatment and survivorship support, in Nebraska. Remaining proceeds support groundbreaking breast cancer research.
