Susan G. Komen Great Plains Announces Week of Giving to Help Breast Cancer Patients

OMAHA, Neb. (April 15, 2020) Susan G. Komen® Great Plains today announced the launch of Komen Cares Week – an online giving campaign that will run April 22 to April 28 to allow individuals and companies to provide financial assistance for breast cancer patients in need. The campaign will support the unique needs of people facing breast cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rising unemployment, mandatory stay at home orders, and an overburdened health care system is causing a perfect storm for breast cancer patients who have questions or need care.

“Patients weakened immune systems put them at greater risk for COVID-19, and this risk coupled with lost income, reduced access to treatment and medical care, and additional financial strain is overwhelming for many,” said Kristin Hunter, executive director, Susan G. Komen Great Plains. “Our work has never been more important, but the impact of COVID-19 makes it critically urgent.”

Donors to the Komen Cares Week campaign will ensure breast cancer patients who need urgent financial help during this crisis can access it. Funds will be distributed to Nebraska and South Dakota patients to provide:

  • Financial assistance for cost of living expenses such as rent, utility payments and groceries,
  • Transportation assistance for patients driving back and forth to treatments over the span of weeks,
  • And treatment assistance to help cover the costs of medication.

Special thank you to Signature Performance — presenting sponsor for Komen Cares Week. Individuals and companies interested in supporting breast cancer patients during this health crisis are encouraged to donate at or by texting Komen to 243725.
